Bluefield
Rescue Squad was founded in 1965 by community business leaders who
recognized the need for an emergency medical services organization.
During the early years of its operation, the squad's personnel were all
dedicated citizens who volunteered their time and talents to the
community. Some of the volunteers were trained in basic first
aid; however, most of the people who volunteered their time did not
have any type of formal training in emergency medicine. As the
squad continued to grow, several of the dedicated volunteers attended
EMT classes offered at the local vocational schools. In the early
1980's, two of the squad's EMT's enrolled in advanced training classes
and obtained their Paramedic certification.
We currently employ many EMS professionals (Paramedics,
EMT-Intermediates, EMT-Basics, and CPR drivers) and other
ancillary personnel. Our squad is governed by nine dedicated
community leaders who volunteer their time as our Board of Directors.
